Day 4: The Resentment Outside the Party
Reading: Luke 15:25-32; Matthew 18:21-35
Devotional: The older brother's anger reveals a tragic reality: you can be physically close to the Father yet emotionally distant. He lived in the father's house but felt like a slave. He obeyed but never enjoyed the relationship. His resentment toward his brother's restoration exposed his own lostness. How often do we harbor similar resentment when God extends grace to people we think don't deserve it? The father's response is tender: "My son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours." The older brother had access to everything but enjoyed nothing because he couldn't share the father's joy. God invites us to celebrate when sinners come home, to rejoice when grace transforms lives. Resentment keeps us outside the celebration, bitter and alone, even while standing at the Father's door.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being a good, good Father who runs toward us with compassion. Help us to come home when we've wandered, to receive Your grace when we're ashamed, and to share Your heart with those around us. May we live as people who truly know and reflect Your love.
